2022 PRECONFERENCE FOM WORKSHOP

FOM hands-on workshop on binocular vision test & vision therapy 

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:  

• To spread confidence and clinical knowledge among optometrists and enhance clinical competence and confidence.
• To expand participants’ knowledge and skills in VISION THERAPY using modern techniques.

DATE: JULY 12^TH – 13TH, 2022

VENUE: Blake Resort, 1436 Ahmadu Bello Way, Garki 2, Abuja, FCT

TIME: DAY 1:             8.00am – 4.00pm

        DAY 2:             8.00am – 6.00pm

ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS:      

• All Registered Optometrists in Nigeria
• All Optometric Corp-members and ODORBN registered Intern Optometrists are also eligible.

MAIN MODULES:

DAY 1:           JULY 12^TH 2022

            BINOCULAR VISION TEST (SEMINAR AND HANDS-ON WORKSHOP)

WORKSHOP SUB-MODULES:    

Sub-module 1:                 Associated phoria tests (Fixation disparity)                        

Sub-module 2:                 Dissociated Phoria Tests

 LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  

Sub-module 1: Associated phoria tests (Fixation Disparity Test)

• There will be a 1hr-seminar presentation on Associated Phoria Measurement.

In this sub-module 1, you will learn:

1. Details about Associated and Dissociated Heterophoria
2. All about FIXATION DISPARITY

• RETINAL CORESPONDENCE in full details using graphics and animations

1. HOROPTER AND PANUM’S AREA in full details using graphics
2. FIXATION DISPARITY AND HETEROPHORIA CORRELATION
3. All Clinical tests for Associated phoria measurement (Fixation Disparity)

Sub-module 2: Dissociated Phoria Measurement

• There will be a comprehensive 5hr-seminar presentation on Dissociated Phoria Measurement. Participants will be given 1 hour break for lunch.
• A 5hr Hands-on/practical workshop on Dissociated Phoria tests will follow

In this sub-module 2, you will learn:

1. Tests For Ocular Motility
2. Tests For Ocular Alignment
3. Tests For Accommodation
4. Test For Vergence
5. Tests For Stereopsis

DAY  2: JULY 13^TH 2022

            VISION THERAPY (SEMINAR AND HANDS-ON WORKSHOP)

WORKSHOP SUB-MODULES:    

Sub-module 1: Vision Therapy for Binocular Vision Disorders (Seminar)                                          

Sub-module 2: Vision Therapy for Binocular Disorder (Workshop)        

 LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  

Sub-module 1:  Vision Therapy for Binocular Vision Disorders

• There will be a 3hr- seminar presentation on the Binocular vision disorders and 5hrs hands-on workshop. In this module, you will learn:

1. Details about Accommodative and Vergence disorders
2. Diagnosis and Clinical Management of Accommodative Disorders

• Diagnosis and Clinical Management of Vergence Disorders

Sub-module 2:  Vision Therapy workshop    

There will be a 5-hour hands-on workshop. In this workshop, you will learn:

1. Vision Therapy Procedures for Accommodative and Convergence
   disorders.
2. Vision Therapy Procedures for Convergence disorders.

WORKSHOP REQUIREMENT

DAY 1 :   BINOCULAR VISION TEST WORKSHOP

The FOM will make the following equipment and materials available for the workshop.

1. 20 units of RAF rule/Felix Rule
2. 20 units of NPC rule

• 20 units of Worth Four Dot near chart

1. 20 units of Modified Thorrington chart
2. 20 units of Howell Chart
3. 20 units of Near Vergence chart

• Prism bars
• Combo Units with Phoropters. (If possible)

1. Etc.

DAY 2: VISION THERAPY WORKSHOP

The FOM will make the following equipment and materials available for the workshop.

1. Vergence and Accommodative training space cards
2. 20 units of Brewster Stereoscopes

• 20 Units of Cheiroscopes

1. 20 units of Aperture rules
2. 20 units of Feliscope
3. 40 units of Brock strings

• Vectogram and Anaglyphs
• Free Space cards

MATERIALS REQUIRED FROM EACH PARTICIPANT

Participants are required to come with the following:

1. White clinical jacket. TAKE NOTE: You will not be able to participate without this
2. Writing materials

• Trial lens set. TAKE NOTE: You will not be able to participate without this

1. Penlight

PRE-REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE

Prospective participants are encouraged to refresh their basic knowledge on the Optometric Extension Programme (OEP) 21 tests, particularly accommodative and vergence tests. This will be handy for the training.

WORKSHOP FEE:

N15, 000: 00 for the 2-day workshop.

• This fee is required to enable Conference Organising Committee meet its obligations.

FOM does not charge for her workshops.

THE 2022 PRECONFERENCE FOM WORKSHOP WAS APPROVED BY 2022 COC ABUJA and the NIGERIAN OPTOMETRIC ASSOCIATION.

CONCLUSION:

One of the major objectives of FOM is spreading of knowledge among optometrists and encouraging sharing of knowledge that will elevate optometric practice across the country. This 2022 pre- conference workshop is another avenue to achieve this mission.
